Throughout its rich history, Marin County has been the home of many outstanding women as diverse as its vistas.

In 1987, a group of women founded the Marin Women's Hall of Fame with the mission to
discover and honor women in our varied community who serve as role models and demonstrate excellence in a wide range of endeavors. Since 1987, the Marin Women's Hall of Fame has sought to recognize the achievements and contributions made by such Marin County women to the overall well-being of our county and its citizens.

Often there are events and showings around the state specific to the recognition of women.  One such exhibit is presently at the California State History Museum in Sacramento that will run through May, 2005.

In March, during Women's History Month, an annual celebration along with the induction of new honorees is held.

Throughout the year the Board of Directors of the Marin Women's Hall of Fame prepares videotaped histories, compiles biographies and commissions portraits of all the honorees. These portraits are added to the permanent collection in the Anne T. Kent California Room at the Civic Center Library in Marin County. Additionally, a traveling exhibit of the honorees' portraits and biographies are displayed at various businesses and community venues throughout the county.
