Message from the Chair
Welcome to the Marin Women’s Commission (MWC) website. I am excited to be the 2016/2017 Chair of the Women’s Commission as we head into our 42nd year as a Board-appointed body!
This is my second stint as Chair of the Commission. I served in 2003/2004 and 2004/2005, leading the Commission through its first Strategic Planning process. I was appointed to the Commission in 1995.
It is our role to be the “eyes and ears” of the Board of Supervisors on issues related to women and girls, especially regarding discrimination based sex. Some of the issues that we’ve focused on over the years include: domestic and family violence, pay equity and wage parity for working women, support for teen girls, leadership development, access to resources, support for CEDAW (United Nation’s Convention on the Elimination of All Discrimination Against Women), women’s health access, childcare and preschool education, and financial sustainability for women of all ages. Currently, we are involved in several collaborations, including the Marin Co. Coalition to End Human Trafficking and Marin Co. Aging Action Initiative.
The Commission is an active member of the Association of California Commissions for Women (ACCW) and the National Association of Commissions for Women (NACW). MWC was a founding member of ACCW and I proudly served on NACW’s Board of Directors representing Marin County from 2004-2016, and as its President from 2011-2016.
We thank you for your interest in the Marin Women’s Commission. We also invite your feedback and input to our work. If you need to contact me directly, please don’t hesitate to call me at 415-492-4420. I am here to offer any assistance or information that you may need.
